Twitter Badges
In a previous announcement, Musk stated that Twitter would offer verification badges in different colors: gold for companies, grey for the government, and blue for individuals. This will make it difficult for users to impersonate companies or government agencies. The company had to temporarily halt the initial rollout of the verification program due to many impersonators before relaunching it in December with a monthly fee of $11.
Availability
The new gold checkmark will be available for brands, and the current blue verification badges will eventually be removed from legacy verified accounts. The new program will also allow brands to add their logo to employee accounts, with approval from the brand. Twitter has not announced a specific date for this change, but if you want to retain verification for your business, you will need to sign up for the new program.
Pricing
Twitter has not yet disclosed information about the pricing for the new verification program for organizations. By signing up, organizations will have early access to a gold checkmark. You can get a square profile picture and affiliate badges instead of the current blue verification badges. The cost of this service is unknown. But it will likely be more expensive than the current $8 per month fee for personal Twitter Blue verification.
Disadvantages of Previous Paid Verification
Twitter’s new paid verification feature is intended to address the issue of impersonation by verified trolls. It will allow users to confirm that accounts claiming to be associated with a specific organization are legitimate. This will help ensure that users can trust the authenticity of companies, celebrities, and other high-profile personalities on the platform.
Wrap Up
When verification is available for purchase, it loses its value and Authority. This happened when Twitter allowed users to pay for a blue checkmark. Twitter may not thoroughly vet applications for the new organization verification program. If it happens, the verification will not carry much weight or meaning. This would mean that any business, even those with questionable operations, could purchase a gold checkmark and present themselves as legitimate. But you have to buy your Twitter Organization Badges when you want others who don’t want to impersonate and affect your Authority.
